As the largest, most complex and one of the most used joints in our bodies, the knee needs proper care during exercise in order for it to function properly in supporting our everyday movements. We would like to present you with three knee-strengthening exercises that you can do right from the comfort of your home!
I’ve often worked with clients who have suffered from a torn meniscus, that is, the piece of cartilage in the knee which acts as a cushion and a stabiliser; this can happens when your knee twists while bearing weight on it. Another form of knee injury is patellar tendonitis, an inflammation of one or more tendons in the knee. I am currently working with my mother who is recovering from osteoarthritis, which is caused by the deterioration of the cartilage with use & age, and which causes joints to become painful and stiff.
The knee is the biggest joint in the body and it is very important to perform exercises correctly so as not to risk getting injured. If you can’t bear weight on your knee or your knee is unstable & you cannot fully extend or flex your knee, it is definitely advisable to see a doctor. Remember to control your movements and place close attention to your joints.
If your doctor passes you for physical activity, I’d advise that you know what caused the injury. Was it from weightlifting? If yes, then I’d advise you change your style of training and continue seeking medical help from professionals. Perform 15-20 slow connected reps 3-4 times. If you wish to start working out and your personal trainer doesn’t care to know about your medical history, I’d also suggest running away and finding another trainer!
